History of Cox's Bazar


Cox's Bazar is longest natural beach in the world. The beach is an unbroken length 125km sandy beach. The history of Cox's bazar begins in the Mughal period. Todays Cox's bazar was named "PALONGKI" before it became Cox's bazar. When the Mughal prince Shah Shuja ( 1616-1660) pass through the hilly area of the present Cox's bazar, he was attracted to the scenic and imagine beauty of the region. He commanded to his forces to camp there. The place named "Dulhazara". After the Mughal time the place came under the control of the Arakanes then the British. The named Cox's bazar was drived from its founder Captain Cox. Cox's bazar is named after Captain Hiram Cox an officer of the East India Company Who was assigned with the charges of the area. The town of Cox's bazar was established in 1799 as a market and town to honour captain Cox. In 1854 set up market and named as Cox's bazar.
Cox's bazar was made a sub divisional headquarter in Chittagong district under British-India.
After the end of British period 1947 Cox's bazar remained a part of East Pakistan. 1971 became a part of Bangladesh. In the year 1984 Cox's bazar was upgraded into a District from sub division. There are eight Upazila under this district.

JAFLONG

Jaflong is a wonderful and most attractive natural visiting place of Sylhet. It attracts the tourists with its spontaneous flow of cristal clear water through the valley of hills. It is situated besides the river Mari. You can see stone collection from the river and can enjoy boating in river Mari. Jaflong is totally a hilly area of real natural beauty so don’t miss it if you like hill tracking. You can also see wild animal in the hilly forest. You can enjoy the lifestyle of Tribe Khashia in Jaflong also.
Location:GowainghatUpazila,Sylhet.                                                                                                               
Climate A hot, wet and humid tropical climate. This area is within the monsoon climate zone, with annual average highest temperatures of 24°C (Aug-Oct) and average lowest temperature of 8°C (Jan). Nearly 80% of the annual average rainfall of 3,334 mm occurs between May and September.

How to go there: It is about 60 Km away from Sylhet city so you need to have a road drive of 2 hours by Bus from Sylhet Natun Bridge Bus stand to Jaflong and have to get down at Mamar Dokan. Then by Rickshaw to the spot and then again have to take a boat to go to Zero Point the main spot of Jaflong.

KUAKATA Beach (Daughter of Sea)

Kuakata sea beach another named (Sagor Konna / Daughter of the Sea) sea beach. It is a white sandy sea beach. It is about 18 km long and near by 3.5km wide. It is most one of the rarest places to see the full view of both sunrise and sunset from the same place or same position. This beach is surrounded by green trees and beside the beach there are many of garden forest, like The Foyez Miya's Coconut Garden, Jhaubon, Ganga motir Chor, Lembur Chor etc. These gardens and forests are the most attractive part for the tourist. There are no quick sands in the beach. So you can frequently run, take bath,sun bath, swim, and pick up cockle from the beach. There are two rivers, named Payra and Bishkhali are West of the beach and river named Agunmukha is East of the beach. It has also some wanderings sites like the Rakhain Polly, Fatrar chor, Shima Boddhu Bihar, Rash Mela, Shutki Polly  that are enjoyable for the tourist.
 Location: Kuakata, Patuakhali, Bangladesh.
Climate Weather condition is very favourable in Patuakhali. Summer heat can not pour its full flair here since monsoon clouds ply gently all over the summer season.
How to go there:  Direct Launch from Sadarghat &Direct bus service from Dhaka to Kuakata is available that leaves from Sayedabad bus station,Dhaka at night.
If you want to travel by launch you can select from Dhaka Sadarghat to Patuakhali. From Patuakhali you can reach Kuakata by bus or you can hire a motor cycle.
You have to cross three ferry in road to reach the spot. Then you can hire a boat costing BDT 1500 to 2000 to visit all the sites of Kuakata.You can also hire a motor cycle or car for visit Kuakata sea beach.
Where to stay: Parjatan Holiday Homes at Kuakata is an famous tourist resort having a number of facilities for the tourist. One pond of crystal clean sweet water beside the motel attracts the tourists. There are also lots of hotels and motels available beside the beach. you can stay there about BDT 200 - 2000  per night.

Nafakhum Waterfall


Nafakhum waterfall is the biggest and most attractive waterfall in Bangladesh. It can be treated as “Niagara Falls” of Bangladesh. It is also an excellent place for trekking. Stone and stone all around the place. In this extreme destination tourists can take all kinds of experiences like journey on zigzag hilly roads, journey by boat in the river of Sangu with trekking. This destination gives the true view of hilly areas. In every step through the journey tourists can feel the essences of nature and life style of the Mountainous people.

Location: Remakri, Thanchi, Bandarban. Thanchi is about 79 km away from Bandarban town.  Climate Winter is the best season to visit Nafakhum.Everage temparetury is 27
  

How to get there: First reach at Bandarban by Bus. There are several bus services available  to Dhaka-Bandarban and fare range around 550-650 BDT and will take 8-10 hours.
From Bandarban town you have to hire a 'Chander Gari' (One kind of open Jeep) to reach at Thanchi  upzila, cost will  3500-4000 BDT.
Then need to hire a boat to reach 'Thanchi Bazar' located opposite side of the river 'Sangu'. At 'Thanchi Bazar' need to get permission from Bangladeshi BGB and also must to take lunch for rest of the journey.
Then again start journey by boat. At evening will reach at 'Tindu Bazar'. One's need to stay overnight there.At morning you have to start journey to 'Remarki' and the way is more challenging and dangerous. It will take 2.30 hours to reach at 'Remarki'.
Then need to start trekking by the side of 'Remarki Jhiri (Khal)'. Need to cross three hills too.
After passing some distance there will be no way to pass the 'Jhiri' by walk then need to swim or manage a boat to cross rever.
After crossing the 'Jhiri', again need to walk about half an hour to reach the final destination 'Nafakhum' waterfall.

Where to stay: If one can wish to stay at Thanchi, can book Thanchi rest house and will cost 600 BDT for 7 people. At Remakri visitors can stay at local tribal houses and cost for each night will about 600 BDT for 10 people. There are also some 'Tribal' houses in Remakri to stay. The travelers should stay for the night at 'Remakri' and the tour guide will help to find a good place to stay.
Local restaurants are available in Thanchi bazar. Travelers should take their lunch at Remakri. There are some restaurants at 'Remakri' and per person lunch cost around 150 BDT.a

Nilgiri

A spectacular heavenly place in Bandarban, managed by Army. Here tourist can get varieties of seasonal beauty. Can get cloudy experience, campfire activities and see foggy gesture of nature. From here, nice and clear view over the tortuous Sangu River as far as visitors sight go.
Location: Nilgiri, Bandarban, Chittagong .
Climate Always cold and temperature is near about 10-25 degree Celsius. Rainy season for the cloudy experiences. Winter shows here it's foggy gesture.
How to go there: It is about 65 km from Bandarban town and need to get the Thanchi bound busses or private vehicles like “Chander gari”.
Transport :Bus : At 8.00 am, 10.30 am, 12.00 pm, 2.00 pm from Bandarban town. Fare (165-180 BDT)Chander Gari : 4300-4500 BDT (12-14 peoples)
 Where to stay: Can stay at night here a military run cottages. But need to reserve cottage(s) about 6 months before the journey start. Also have other three tents with 4 beds in each. There is also restaurant and helipad. Electricity available from 6-9 pm.
Cottage : 4000-7000 BDT (4 beds in each cottage).Tent : 2000 BDT (4 beds in each tent)
Entry Permits/Fees: Free to all.
Do anyone walk over the cloud? then must go to Nilgiri. One of the highest peaks in Bangladesh.

Saint Martin Island

Saint Martin is a small but very beautiful coral Island of Bangladesh. The Island is a very quiet, neat and clean place. Every corners of this Island has different look and are very attractive. Here you will find live and dead coral, lots of coconut trees that’s why its local name is Narikel Jinjira. Overnight staying in St. Martins Island is really an exotic feeling where you will feel and listen the sound of Sea. If you are lucky then you can spend the exotic moonlit night at St. Martins Island. The beauty of Full moon in St. Martins Island cannot be expressed, if you are not there at that time. Chera-dwip is a beautiful part of this Island, you can go there by boat. You can walk around the Island in a day. You can enjoy  BBQ dinner with fresh marine fish or lobsters here.
Location: Saint Martin, Cox's Bazar, Chittagong. Climate You will get the best weather usually between November to February.
How to go there: You can get Saint Martin’s Island by many way. You can come to Teknaf by bus. There are several bus service depart from Dhaka to Teknaf, bus fare is around BDT 850-950 non-A/C and BDT 1300-1700 A/C as of January, 2012. Maximum bus starts at night and the journey is near about 11-12 hours. From Teknaf, mid-level ships run daily and take around 2-3 hours named Kutubdia, Keari Sindbad, Sundarban Service. The fare starts from BDT 450 to BDT 2500 as of January, 2012. All the ships and cruises starts journey from Teknaf to Saint Martin around 9AM - 9.30AM and return journey starts from Saint Martin to around 3PM - 3.30PM. During the off-season (May-September) these ships are not provide services because of bad weather. The peak-season is October-April. Distance from Dhaka to the island is 510 km.

Where to stay: Accommodation facilities are very good here. You can easily manage a room according to your budget. Most of the evenings can be candlelit as no electricity on St Martins, but a few of the much expensive hotels have generators services.

Patenga Beach


Patenga Beach
Patenga is a beautiful sunset viewing sea beach near to Chittagong city. It is mostly popular for sunset and sunrise viewing. The beach converges both the nature and the port facilities at the same time. It is quite a sandy beach. It is located near the mouth of the Karnaphuli River. So, you can view both types of natural beauty. You can enjoy river cruise on the Karnaphuli River, or a boat trip onto the ocean waves. The beach area is covered by some square shaped concretes that also makes this beach unique and nice sight seeing from other sea beaches. You may make your kitty marketing from the beach side market also. Can buy lots of interesting Burmese things, jewellery items etc. Water drives are also present for you to enjoy. You can enjoy another small sea beach about 16 Km away from this beach called Fouzdarhat sea beach. It is an ideal place for picnic.
Location: Patenga, Chittagong. Climate It is better to go in the winter seasons.
How to get there: It will take about an hour from the center place of Chittagong city by auto rickshaw to reach Patenga Beach and will take about 250 BDT. Bus or Tempu will take about 30-35 BDT .You can definitely hire better transport also.
Where to stay: There are many hotels in Chittagong city some of them are the best hotels of the country.You can also find some reasonable hotels to stay and have food.

Parki beach


Parki Beach is situated at the Karnafuli river channel, you can view both the Karnafuli river and the sea together. It is about 15 km long. You can observe the big ship anchored at the outer dock, sunset, fishermen catching fish in sea, various colored crabs etc. It is a favorite location for locals to spend the day with their families, enjoying picnics and beach activities. The sunsets at Parki Beach are magnificent and not to be missed.
Location: Anwara thana , Southern from Chittagong.17 km away from Chittagong city. 
Climate It is better to go in the winter seasons.
How to go there: This beach is situated in Anwara thana. You can reach there by Auto Rickshaw or bus from Chittagong city or journeying by boat (only in winter) from South- patenga  Airport. You need to spend BDT 300-400 in Auto Rickshaw or BDT 30-40 in Bus to come on that beach from the city.

Where to stay:There are many hotels in Chittagong city some of them are the best hotels of the country. You will also find some reasonable hotels to stay and have food.

Inani Beach

Inani beach is considered as world longest and broadest beautiful beach. It is famous for its rock and coral boulders. Here you can see hill in one side and sea on the other side that is really marvelous sight. Sunset and sunrise view of this beach should be memorable in you life. The blue water and the lines of stones attract the tourist most. The clean blue shark free  water is ideal for bathing and swimming without any fear. The Water stored in between stones accommodate small sea-fish, crabs, snail, and many more. These will keep you busy for all day long. Most of the tourists choose this relaxing place for its silent nature and environment.

Location: Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. Famous for Golden sand ,rock and coral.
Climate The climate of this place is typically similar to the rest of the country. However, it characterized by the location in the coastal region. The annual average temperature in here remains at approximately highest 34.8 °C and lowest 16.1 °C. The average amount rainfall is at 4,285 mm.  

How to get there: If you are a group of 10-15 people then from Cox’s Bazar you can hire a Chander Gari, one kind of jeep to reach the spot, costing BDT 1800-2500. You can also hire an Auto Rickshaw for full day costing BDT 800-1000 if you are 2-3 people.
Where to stay: There are some new hotels in this sandy beach for living but not good enough. So you may have to go back in Cox’s Bazar to stay and eat.

Laboni Beach


Cox’s bazaar is the largest sea beach all over the world, having the largest forest which is the important assets of Bangladesh. Laboni beach is the longest and main beach of Cox’s Bazar. It is the closest sea beach to the town. It is a place of enjoyment. It will be more enjoyable during sunset and sunrise, as the sea changes color twice a day.

Location: Laboni point Cox’s Bazar. From Cox’s bazar you can easily reach to the Laboni point by Rickshaw or Auto Rickshaw.Laboni beach characterized by the location in the coastal region.
How to get there: You can come to Cox’s Bazar by bus or air. There are several bus service available from Dhaka to
Cox’s Bazar. Bus fare is around BDT 650-900 non-A/C and BDT 1200-1600 A/C . The journey is near about 8-10 hours. As well as Bangladesh Biman , United and  Regent Air has domestic flights for Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar.

Where to stay: There are lots of private hotels, motels and restaurants you can find here for stay and eat. There are also few hotels/ motels such as Hotel Probal and Sikat operated by the Parjatan Corporation, a government tourism organization.

Biological importance: The sea beach and coastal region is an important habitat of plant and animal of various species. More than 8 thousand wildlife is there and 20 species of them about to distinct globally. This is a breeding place of 2 species of sea turtle which are under distinct in globally. A large number of migratory birds move here during winter season having more than 82 species. Besides this the sea mammals which are under distinct have there. The sandy sea beach which is about 80 kilometer long and very alter native to the tourist.

Economical importance: As a most beautiful and famous tourist’s spot of Bangladesh,
the major sources of economy of Cox’s bazaar are tourism. Million of foreign and Bangladeshi natives visit this coastal city every year. Therefore, a number of hotel, guest house, and motel have been built in the city and coastal region. Many people are involved in these hospitality and customer service type business. A number of people are also involved in the fishing and collecting sea food and products for their livelihood. Out of several sea products various kinds of Oyster, Snail, Pearl and their ornaments are very popular to the tourists in the seaside and city stores. A number of people are also involved in the transportation business for the tourists.

conservation. The Safari Park is one of the successful projects.
Location: Dolahazara Safari Park was developed on an undulating landscape of around 2,224 acres (9.00km2) of area at Chakaria Upazila in Cox's Bazar District, Bangladesh, some 107 km away from Chittagong city. You will see this park near Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway. The distance between the park and Cox’s Bazar tourist city is about 50 kilometers. It is located north of Cox’s Bazar.

Tiger Safari: It is also established at the south-western part of safari park. It covers total 50hectors area. Tiger Safari was started with 2 tigers. You can also enjoy it with safari buses and jeeps.
Crocodile Bank: To save the endangered crocodile of Bangladesh, a crocodile bank has been established in this park. It is situated at the north-western part of the park adjacent to a lake. It covers total 5 hectors area. There are 37 Marsh Crocodile (Mugger), 15Estuarine Crocodile and 3 Ghorials in this bank. These animals have been realized for conservation and breeding program.

African Safari: Zebra, Wildebeest, Hippopotamus etc.  are included in African Safari. Buses and jeeps are available for visiting this spot. It is at the southern side of the park. The total area of this safari is 100 hectors.
Deer Safari: The tourists will like this place. It has been established at the center of this park. It covers 100 hectors area of the park. Safari buses and jeeps are available to visitthis place. At first, about 200 Spotted Deer, 150 Barking Deer, 35 Sambars, 6Goyal , 3 Goral, and 6 Hog Deer were released for public show.

Elephant Safari: There are 8 elephants in Elephant Safari. All these elephants are available for riding. It has been established at the northern part of this park. It covers 100 hectors area.

 Nature History Museum: It is the combination of plant and animal museum. This is established adjacent to the park information center. In the plant museum about 2000 plant herbarium sheets has been collected for display with computerized data. Similarly about 3050 animal stuffs including vertebrate and invertebrate have been collected for display with a computerized data.

Everyday a huge number of tourists including students and researchers visit Safari Park Cox’s Bazar. Why are you late then? So, travel this spot for knowledge and delight .TheSafari  Park itself protects a large number of wild elephants which are native to the area. In the safari park there are domesticated elephants which are available for a ride. Other animal attractions include lions, Bengal tigers, crocodiles, bears, spotted deer and many types of birds and monkeys.

Christmas Tree: Number of Christmas tree is another famous attraction of here.The road to Himchari runs by lovely green hill on one side and open blue sea on other side.
Accommodation: After visiting Himchari if you want to stay at night use resort and new hotels, or shoud stay in Cox’s bazar. You will get a number of hotel, motel and restaurants there with different budget. You can reach Himchari only by the beach. So ensure you are back to town before high tide rise in the evening . It is not advisable to stay here after sunset.
